I just really like bugs! Here are some of my favourites.
Dubia Roach
(Blaptica Dubia)
These are my all-time favorite insect! They are commonly used as feeders for reptiles like geckos, bearded dragons, and so on; but they also make good food for arachnids like scorpions and tarantulas! They are ovoviviparous, which just means they can lay eggs as well as live birth. Females do this by pulling their egg pouches inside of their bodies, where they remain until they are ready to hatch.
They molt! And when they do, they emerge completely white with dark eyes, kind of like an alien, and darken within a matter of hours. They're very social, and some studies have observed that lone dubia roaches grow slower than socialized specimen.
Chilean Rose Hair Tarantula
(Grammostola Rosea)
It might be a little morbid to include this one right after the last entry, but I just love them too much! This beautiful spider is known for her docile and slow-moving nature, making them wonderful pets. This species is not sexually dimorphic, which means there are few differences between the male and female specimens, but it has been found that males often have shorter bodies. However, there is a large difference in their lifespan (as with most tarantulas). The males live up to about four years, whereas the females can survive up to twenty!
